Beginning in 1975, Al worked in the Surety Bond Department of Aetna Casualty & Surety Company. Initially working as a bond trainee in Portland Maine, Al quickly advanced through various Surety positions in New Orleans, Louisiana and Boston, Massachusetts, prior to being named Senior Vice President of the New Jersey Bond operation. His responsibilities over the N.J. operation were inclusive of sales, marketing and management.

Al resigned his position with Aetna Casualty & Surety Company in 1984 to form a new construction brokerage company. That start-up company, Marquis and Associates, became the largest provider of construction insurance and surety brokerage services in New Jersey by 1997. During 1997, Marquis & Associates was sold to Willis, the largest provider of surety and construction brokerage in North America. After the merger, Al held the position of CEO of the New Jersey Construction Practice from 1997 through 2000 and was subsequently appointed the Northeast Regional Construction Practice Leader in 2000.

Al possesses a variety of financial interests, including his ownership and directorship in Team Capital Bank as well as partnership interests in the Palace and Wetdock, LLC, a real estate development company.

Al earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Maine in 1975. He also completed the Jerel Tims CPA review and graduate courses in accounting at LSU from 1978 -1980.
